Welcome to the UK TaeKwonDo Academy
Tae Kwon-do as a martial art was originally developed in Korea to combine the best aspects from the Chinese, Japanese, Okinawan and Korean martial arts techniques and systems, encompassing combat, self defense, fitness and flexibility. It is one of the longest established martial arts clubs in the Retford and surrounding areas, having been involved in training students for over 30 years.
Master John Stacey is the Chief Instructor, with fellow instructors Master Simon Stockdale, Ken Jaftha (technical training specialist), Adam Barlow (weapons training specialist), Mick Turton (close quarter combat specialist), and Paula Stacey (club secretary).
Our club offers instruction to any student from beginner to black belt, having a number of master and senior grades with many years of experience in both Tae Kwon-do and other martial arts, to give a more rounded experience and knowledge base.
Tae Kwon-do is suited to children above seven, and men and women of all ages. Many of our students join with little or no experience. Our instructors are always receptive to your questions and will take the time to teach you step-by-step, with patience and enthusiasm. We promise that Tae Kwon-Do will be one of the best decisions you ever make.
The UK TaeKwonDo Academy is affiliated with the World Taekwon Mudo Academy in Britain (BTMA) under Grand Master Kim Yong Ho 9th Dan. Grand Master Kim is the founder and president of the of the World Taekwon Mudo Academy. The World Taekwon Mudo Academy is affiliated with the National Governing Body for Taekwondo in Great Britain, the British Taekwondo Council (B.T.C.). Master John Stacey is the Chairman of the BTMA.
Tae Kwon-do is a complete martial art and is one of the worlds most popular, being the most systematic and scientific Korean traditional martial art that teaches more than physical fighting skills. It is a discipline that shows ways of enhancing our spirit and life through training our body and mind. Taekwondo is loosely translated as "the way of the foot and fist" but some translate it as, "the art of kicking and punching." Today, it has become a global sport that has gained an international reputation, and stands among the official games in the Olympics. Although it is known today for its sport fighting, its traditional techniques have their origins dating back over many centuries.
Training Objectives
You will train to achieve your own personal objectives. We understand that not all students wish to enter into competitions, or even aspire to become a black belt or beyond. Therefore whether your objective is simply to get fit, to learn self defense techniques, or to learn the traditional and/or sport fighting sides of Tae Kwon-do, our teaching methods are able to accommodate as far as possible, your individual needs.
As a student of our classes you will at your own pace, improve your fitness - strength, speed, stamina, balance and flexibility through anaerobic and aerobic exercise, which will help boost your energy levels and your 'feel good' factor. This in turn leads to better levels of concentration, reduced stress levels, higher self esteem and better self confidence.

The classes are designed to be fun for all, and for children to burn off some of that excess energy. As with any Martial Art however, but particularly true of Tae Kwon-do, there is a great deal of etiquette, respect and appropriate discipline instilled in all our students.
There will be frequently asked questions about your training. This website contains general information, to support your training and provide specific detail to assist you in your training development, and to broaden your knowledge. It includes what you need to know for your gradings, for example questions about the patterns, questions on the interpretation etc. from White belt to Black Belt, and for the higher Dan grades, and is designed to complement your training.
